LOVEYS DO YAMBA. December 2019
Yamba Bowls Club….what a great venue that is!! We had met an all-women’s band The MacLeles in Brisbane at our last Ukulele Festival there. They asked us if we could perform a double bill with them down in Yamba- and because we loved what they are doing musically, we said yes of course! The Yamba/McLean region has a very active ukulele community- so we ran an afternoon workshop before our concert. What a treat to have so many really accomplished players in front of us- we ran through some right hand techniques that I use when performing three of our songs- a picking strum and a couple of tricky rhythms- for ;

On traveling down there through the blackened trees on both sides of our Pacific Highway we wondered if anyone would come out of their homes at all to see us. How humbling this all is, and what a reminder of how important it is to be in community to help each other at all times. But out they came- some from as far away as Glen Innes- had to come via a detour they told us!
First, it was time for the MacLeles to begin our evening. The audience was filling up , again with people who had not seen us perform. The MacLeles certainly warmed an appreciative audience up with their well-crafted, hilarious songs. When we hit the stage we were already aware of what a wonderful audience this would be to play to- and no surprised there at all. From the lovely accompaniment from our workshop participants on Great Being Old to the laughter and poignant response to all of our songs, we had a most gorgeous evening. Have to mention the sound guy….we are so lucky to be able to persuade Troy (Pam’s hushband) to set up our sound for us- this was a real bonus once more- our sound was perfect, the show a huge success because of it. Thankyou once more to Troy who we love!!
